TOMIOKA Cherry Bark - 樺細工

Tomioka(富岡商店), located in the historic town of Kakunodate in Akita Prefecture(秋田県角館町), has been safeguarding the art of Kaba-zaiku(樺細工), or cherry bark craft, since 1970. This centuries-old tradition, recognised as a Japanese folk art(民藝), transforms the bark of the Japanese cherry tree into exquisite, functional creations. With origins dating back to the late 18th century, Kaba-zaiku combines elegance and practicality, reflecting the beauty and warmth of nature.
