JINSUI Tokoname ware Pair Tea Cup - TOKI Series - Shirohai /人水 常滑 ティーカップ

Tokoname ware (常滑焼) is one of Japan’s Six Ancient Kilns (日本六古窯), alongside Seto, Shigaraki, Echizen, Tamba and Bizen. This rich ceramic tradition is reflected in the craftsmanship of Jin-Sui Kiln (人水), a renowned Tokoname workshop dedicated to creating high-quality teapots.

Tokoname clay is prized for its durability and finely textured, dense clay body. Fired at carefully controlled temperatures, it retains fine natural pores that help absorb impurities from water and tea, contributing to a smoother, more refined taste.

Small, shallow and quietly elegant, this pair of tea cups from the TOKI series is made as a natural companion to Jin-Sui’s teapots: the same Tokoname clay and careful craftsmanship, made for the moment the tea is poured.

Each cup holds about 60 ml, the traditional size for enjoying fine Japanese green teas such as sencha and gyokuro a little at a time, while the tea is at its best. The wide, low shape lets the aroma rise and shows off the colour of the tea against the soft Shirohai finish.

Pair them with a Jin-Sui teapot for a matching set, or give them as a thoughtful gift for a tea lover.

As every piece is handmade, slight irregularities in size, glaze, colour and texture may occur and reflect the nature of the artisan product.
