Tokoname ware (常滑焼) is one of Japan’s Six Ancient Kilns(日本六古窯), alongside Seto, Shigaraki, Echizen, Tamba, and Bizen. This rich ceramic tradition is reflected in the craftsmanship of Jin-Sui Kiln (人水), a renowned Tokoname workshop dedicated to creating high-quality teapots. Tokoname clay is known for its durability and non-porous nature, making it an ideal material for teapots. Fired at carefully controlled temperatures to prevent over-hardening, the clay retains a porous quality that helps absorb impurities from water and tea, resulting in a smoother, more refined taste.
In addition to its natural filtration properties, the iron content in the clay reacts with the tannins in tea, reducing bitterness and enhancing its natural sweetness. This makes Jin-Sui's Tokoname teapots a favourite among tea enthusiasts, not only for their aesthetic appeal but also for their ability to improve the flavour of tea. Crafted with precision and tradition, each teapot embodies the timeless artistry of Tokoname ware, offering a perfect balance of function and beauty.
