Kutani ware Gold Leaf Matcha Bowl / 九谷焼 抹茶碗 金箔 光陽窯
Kutani ware(九谷焼) is a traditional craft of Ishikawa prefecture(石川県) with a history of over 360 years. The beauty of nature, brilliant colour and fine calligraphy are the key features of this style of Japanese pottery.
This matcha bowl is one of our premium matcha bowls. It is a style that covers hand-painted flowers on the surface and is outlined with gold paints. It is a traditional technique of Kutani ware, introduced by Shiro Mizuta in 1913. Since that time, it has become a representative of Kutani ware.
The shape of this matcha bowl is a half-cylindrical type, with straight sides and a flatter bottom. This shape makes whisking matcha easier as the vertical walls help keep the tea from splashing over the lip. In addition to the coarse bottom and heavyweight, it is great for matcha lovers to stabilise the bowl on any surface.
As the whole piece is handmade in Japan. Each piece is unique; slight irregularities in size, glaze, colour and texture might occur and reflect the nature of the artisan product.
