Description

蔵珍窯 (Zoho gama) is a kiln deeply rooted in tradition yet continuously evolving to meet the needs of modern life. The name "Zoho" reflects this legacy—"Zoho" combines "蔵" (storehouse) and "珍" (treasure), symbolising the kiln’s mission to create tableware as rare and precious as treasures worthy of safekeeping.

Gosu Akae (呉須赤絵) refers to a style of overglaze red painting applied on top of underglaze. It is said that tea connoisseurs in Kyoto took inspiration from red-painted porcelain produced in Wuzhou, China, during the late Ming dynasty, and adapted the technique to suit Japanese aesthetics.

The depth of red tones and the strength of each brushstroke reveal the artist’s skill.
Motifs such as phoenixes and peonies are particularly auspicious, traditionally celebrated as symbols of prosperity, longevity, and joyful occasions.

When we visited their kiln in Tajimi City, Japan, in February 2024, we were struck by the Koizumi family’s unwavering dedication to craftsmanship and their passion for creating tableware that balances beauty and utility. Each piece carries their philosophy of enriching daily life through artistry and mindfulness, and we are honoured to bring these extraordinary works to you.

As the whole piece is handmade in Japan, slight irregularities in size, glaze, colour and texture might occur and reflect the nature of the artisan product.
