Youna Matsushita Japanese Calligraphy - "〇" - Zero - 30 cm / - 松下夕那
"〇" - Zero represents emptiness, wholeness, and the possibility of beginning again. Formed through a single expressive circular movement, the artwork balances strength with simplicity, leaving an open centre that invites contemplation. Rather than suggesting absence alone, zero can be seen as a space of potential — a quiet starting point from which something new may emerge.
What occasions merit its use?
Circular forms hold deep significance in Japanese aesthetics and Zen-inspired art, where they can express ideas of completeness, continuity, emptiness, and the beauty of the present moment. The imperfect movement of the brush also reflects the individuality of each gesture, making the work feel spontaneous and alive. "〇" is particularly meaningful for marking a new chapter, a fresh beginning, a move into a new home, or a period of personal reflection. It can also be appreciated simply as a calming presence within a space, encouraging openness, balance, and a return to what is essential.
