Description

Introducing the Shigaraki ware Tanuki(Raccoon), a symbol of good fortune and prosperity with a rich history. This charming Raccoon ornament was first crafted by Tetsuzo Fujiwara in the early Meiji period. Inspired by the mystical sound of raccoon drumming on the banks of the Otowa River, Tetsuzo recreated this enchanting image in pottery after returning to Shigaraki.

The Shigaraki ware raccoon embodies "Hasso Engi," representing eight phases of auspiciousness:

  • Hat (Kasa): Protects from misfortune and evil.
  • Eyes: Large eyes signify keen observation and sound decision-making.
  • Smile: A cheerful smile ensures a prosperous business.
  • Sake Bottle (Tokkuri): Cultivating virtue leads to a stable and prosperous life.
  • Passbook: Symbolizes building trust with customers.
  • Big Belly: Represents calmness and bold decision-making.
  • Money Bag: Brings good financial fortune.
  • Tail: Ensures all endeavours end well.

Bring home this delightful Shigaraki ware Tanuki(Raccoon) to invite good fortune and happiness into your life.
