This handmade Suribachi (grinding bowl) is a Japanese mortar. It is used for crushing different ingredients, such as sesame seeds, in Japanese cooking.

The Suribachi is a pottery mortar with a single spout. It is also recommended for making your favourite sauce and dressing.

As the whole piece is handmade in Japan, slight irregularities in size, glaze, colour and texture might occur and reflect the nature of the artisan product.
