Fukurou Owl Sushi Yunomi Tea Cup / 梟湯呑み
This charming yunomi tea cup is crafted in the Mino region of Gifu Prefecture, one of Japan’s most historic centres of pottery making for over 1,300 years. The clay body has a warm, natural texture that feels grounding in the hand — perfect for daily tea, coffee, or warm sake at the end of the day.
The owl motif is illustrated with soft expression, perched quietly among leaves. In Japan, the owl (fukurou, 梟) is regarded as a symbol of wisdom and good fortune. The word fukurou can also be written as 不苦労, meaning “no hardship”, making it a gentle charm for a peaceful path ahead. For this reason, owl ceramics are often chosen as thoughtful gifts — encouraging good luck in studies, work, or new beginnings.
This piece follows the classic sushi-yunomi form: straight-walled for a secure grip, balanced weight, and a wide opening that makes drinking comfortable. The inside is lightly glazed, allowing for easy cleaning while maintaining the natural feel of the clay.
A humble, heartwarming cup — one that brings a quiet companion-like presence to everyday routines.
Made in Japan, perfect for sencha and other teas brewed at around 80°C, these cups bring both charm and practicality to your daily tea ritual.
As every piece has handmade features, slight irregularities in size, glaze, colour and texture might occur and reflect the nature of the artisan product.
