Deep cobalt blue swirls around the rim and gathers into a cluster of dots towards the base, with small flecks of white and amber like tropical fish darting through the water. Because each cup is handmade, the pattern and depth of blue differ slightly from piece to piece.
Made by hand in Japan for Kimoto Glass, each cup has a soft, frosted finish that gently diffuses the colour. Where the glass is thicker the colour deepens, and where it thins it turns almost clear, so the cup changes with the light. Its small size is made for sipping chilled sake, and it is just as lovely for cold tea or a little dessert.
As every piece has its handmade feature, slight irregularities in size, shape, colour and texture might occur and reflect the nature of the artisan product.
