Matcha Bowl - Spring Bloom / 抹茶碗 春の訪れ
Seto ware, produced in Seto City, Aichi Prefecture, has been a cornerstone of Japanese ceramics for over 1,000 years. Renowned for its diverse styles and exceptional quality, Seto ware, known as "Setomono," gained prominence in the Kamakura period when Kato Shirozaemon Kagemasa introduced pottery techniques from China. This period marked the creation of the iconic ash glaze and ame glaze, which paved the way for a flourishing pottery industry.
During the Momoyama to early Edo periods, Seto ware became synonymous with the tea ceremony, producing celebrated styles like Kiseto, Setoguro, Oribe, and Shino. In the Meiji period, the vibrant artistry of Seto extended beyond tea utensils to include Oribe coffee sets, Western plates, and ceramic toys, becoming a popular export item. This matcha bowl, adorned with a delicate camellia flower, embodies the timeless elegance and innovative spirit of Seto’s rich ceramic heritage.
