Crafted by Yagi Kaiho, a certified Kyo Kiyomizu ware Traditional Craftsman (京焼・清水焼伝統工芸士), this whisk stand embodies the refinement and quiet discipline of Kyoto’s ceramic traditions.

Born in 1950 in the historic pottery region of Yamashiro and trained under the celebrated master Kato Josui, Kaiho sensei has dedicated decades to the art of Kyoto over-glaze painting (京絵付). His works are widely recognised for their gentle forms, meticulous brushwork, and a warm, approachable charm that reflects the spirit of everyday beauty in Kyoto.

Designed for daily tea practice as well as moments of quiet ritual, this matcha bowl offers a balanced weight and comfortable curve in the hands. The form allows the matcha to be whisked smoothly, while the glazed surface reveals subtle variations created through the firing process — a reminder of the human touch behind each piece.

Each piece is carefully shaped, glazed, and decorated by hand in Kaiho sensei’s Kyoto workshop, making every stand subtly unique. These gentle variations in colour, line, and expression are hallmarks of genuine craftsmanship — traces of the artisan’s presence in each stroke.
