Kutani ware Pair Rabbit Yunomi Tea Cups / 九谷焼 野ウサギ 湯飲みセット
Kutani ware(九谷焼) is a traditional craft of Ishikawa prefecture(石川県) with a history of over 360 years. The beauty of nature, brilliant colour and fine calligraphy are the key features of this style of Japanese pottery.
In Japanese culture, rabbits symbolize luck, advancement, and self-devotion. With the help of their forelegs, they climb hills faster than they descend. Therefore, rabbits are also seen as symbols of progress. This positive symbolism is why rabbits are featured in many traditional crafts such as kimonos and tableware.
Compared with Matchawan(抹茶碗) for a tea ceremony, Yunomi(湯飲み) is a type of teacup that is made for drinking tea on a daily basis. They are handleless, tall and cylindrical in shape. Because they can be found in almost every Sushi train restaurant, Yunomi is also called Sushi Yunomi(寿司湯飲み) in Japanese.
These two yunomi cups are crafted by potter's wheel with great texture and relaxing drawings. The cups are relatively thick, so they can keep the drinks at their original temperature.
