Description

Meticulously handcrafted by skilled artisans of Kutani ware, the intricate details and vibrant colours of the design breathe life into this beautiful vase, making it a captivating centrepiece for your home.

Kutani ware(九谷焼) is a traditional craft of Ishikawa prefecture(石川県) with a history of over 360 years. The beauty of nature, brilliant colour and fine calligraphy are the key features of this style of Japanese pottery.

This beautiful cup is inspired by "紅白梅図屏風" (Red and White Plum Blossoms Folding Screen) by Ogata Kōrin.

Ogata Kōrin (1658-1716) was a prominent Japanese painter and lacquerware artist from the Edo period. He was a member of the Rinpa school, which emphasized bold and decorative designs inspired by classical Japanese aesthetics. Kōrin's style was characterized by vibrant colours, gold leaf, and distinctive motifs.

The "紅白梅図屏風" is one of Kōrin's most famous works, created around the early 18th century. It originally is a pair of folding screens (byōbu) portraying red and white plum blossoms in a dramatic and elegant manner. The screens are known for their striking use of gold leaf and skilful compositions, showcasing Kōrin's mastery of decorative arts and design.

The red and white plum blossoms hold symbolic significance in Japanese culture, representing the coming of spring and the fleeting nature of beauty. Kōrin's portrayal of these flowers in his folding screens exudes a sense of grace, delicacy, and timeless allure.

The "紅白梅図屏風" is considered a national treasure of Japan and is held in high regard for its artistic merit and cultural significance. It serves as a prime example of Kōrin's artistic legacy, leaving a lasting impact on the world of traditional Japanese art.

As the whole piece is handmade in Japan, slight irregularities in size, glaze, colour and texture might occur and reflect the nature of the artisan product.
