Description

'The Great Wave off Kanagawa (神奈川沖浪裏)', also known as 'Great Wave', is a woodblock print by Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai(葛飾北斎) of the Edo period. This spectacular print is part of his 'Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji(富嶽三十六景)' series during the 1830s, depicting Mount Fuji from different locations and in various seasons and weather conditions. 'Great Wave' has been described as 'possibly the most reproduced image in the history of all art' until now.

Kutani ware(九谷焼) is a traditional craft of Ishikawa prefecture(石川県) with a history of over 360 years. The beauty of nature, brilliant colour and fine calligraphy are the key features of this style of Japanese pottery.

As the whole piece is handmade in Japan, slight irregularities in size, glaze, colour and texture might occur and reflect the nature of the artisan product.
