Kutani Ware Yunomi Tea Cup - Kingfisher / 九谷焼

Kutani ware (九谷焼) is a traditional craft of Ishikawa prefecture (石川県) with a history of over 360 years. The beauty of nature, brilliant colour and fine calligraphy are the key features of this style of Japanese porcelain.

The kingfisher (kawasemi, カワセミ) is admired in Japan for its brilliant blue feathers and quick, graceful flight, and has long been a favourite subject of traditional painting. Here it is brought to life with Kutani ware's vivid hand-painted decoration on a classic yunomi — the tall, handleless cup used for everyday Japanese green tea. Comfortable to hold and generous in size, it makes a lovely cup for your daily tea, or a thoughtful gift for a nature lover.
