Kutani ware (九谷焼) is a traditional craft of Ishikawa prefecture (石川県) with a history of over 360 years. The beauty of nature, brilliant colour and fine calligraphy are the key features of this style of Japanese porcelain.

These plates take a soft, ruffled edge rather than a straight one, with a delicate relief worked into the rim that catches the light differently depending on the angle. At 16cm, they're a genuinely useful everyday size — a slice of cake, a piece of toast, a side dish alongside something larger — rather than purely decorative.
