Kutani ware (九谷焼) is a traditional craft of Ishikawa prefecture (石川県) with a history of over 360 years. The beauty of nature, brilliant colour and fine calligraphy are the key features of this style of Japanese porcelain.

This mug sits substantial in the hand, with a slightly thicker body and a brown handle that grounds the piece. The camellia pattern wraps around the whole cup—deep green with a gold-coloured glaze framing the design—and carries a lightness to it, almost playful. Both the colour and the design feel rooted in Japanese tradition, yet there's nothing precious about using it daily for coffee or tea.
