Kutani Ware Matcha Bowl - Peony / 九谷焼 抹茶椀

Kutani ware (九谷焼) is a traditional craft of Ishikawa prefecture (石川県) with a history of over 360 years. The beauty of nature, brilliant colour and fine calligraphy are the key features of this style of Japanese porcelain.

The peony blooms generous and full across the pale ground, its petals rendered in soft coral and pink with green leaves and touches of blue to set it off. The dark base anchors it all, sturdy and earthy, a quiet counterpoint to the flower's exuberance.
