KAGAMI Crystal Glass Vase by Junichi Nabetani - Tomoshibi / 鍋谷淳一 灯火
This elegant single-stem vase, Tomoshibi (灯火), is the work of Junichi Nabetani (鍋谷淳一), a certified Traditional Craftsman celebrated for his refined mastery of Edo Kiriko.
Carefully designed and hand-cut by Mr Nabetani himself, this piece features an abundance of kamaboko cuts—softly rounded, raised facets that catch and reflect light with remarkable brilliance. The result is a luminous surface that feels bright and uplifting, living up to its name Tomoshibi, meaning “lamplight.” Each angle responds gently to its surroundings, creating subtle shifts of sparkle and shadow.
Encircling the rim is the traditional kiku-tsunagi (菊繋ぎ) chrysanthemum-link pattern—an enduring Edo Kiriko motif symbolising longevity and harmony. This intricate detail provides a refined contrast, drawing the eye upward and bringing balance and definition to the overall silhouette.
The warm-toned crystal beautifully complements flowers in soft reds, oranges, and autumnal leaves, enhancing their natural vibrancy. Whether displaying a single bloom or a delicate branch, this vase transforms even the simplest arrangement into a quiet statement of Japanese craftsmanship.
Both sculptural and functional, Tomoshibi stands as a testament to the precision and sensitivity of traditional Edo Kiriko artistry—ideal for collectors or as a meaningful gift that carries light, warmth, and heritage.
As the whole piece is handmade in Japan, irregularities in size, weight, colour and texture might occur and reflect the nature of the artisan product.
