Five are the most well-entertained for the host in traditional home gatherings, especially tea ceremonies. They have specific seating arrangements for the ceremonies.

Also, to appeal to a broad, general audience, such as families with more than one kid, ancient Japanese pottery kiln started to use five as a set for tableware sale. They continue to use this tradition now.
