Kousaido (香彩堂) is a Kyoto-based incense maker with a simple but deeply felt philosophy — to colour your life with fragrance. Drawing on Kyoto's centuries-old incense traditions and the city's ever-changing seasons, Kousaido blends ancient Japanese craftsmanship with a modern sensibility to create scents that feel equally at home in a quiet morning ritual or an everyday moment of pause. Natural sandalwood forms the heart of every blend, layered with woods, botanicals, and florals to build fragrances that are both grounded and evocative. The range is wide and thoughtfully curated — from rare agarwood and kyara to playful contemporary series inspired by ukiyo-e prints, woodland creatures, and the colours of autumn leaves — all presented in packaging as considered as the scents within. Cherry Blossoms (桜花の香り) : The most openly sweet of the four, blending cherry, peach, and lily of the valley into a fruity spring fragrance that's cheerful without being cloying. It's the scent of a cat stretched out under a tree in full bloom, entirely unbothered by the season making a fuss around it.

Early Summer (初夏の香り) : Fresher and greener than the cherry blossom, with green tea, lily of the valley, and musk giving it a clean, cool quality that feels like the first properly warm morning after a long winter. Light and easy to live with.

Late Autumn (晩秋の香り) : The warmest and most settled of the four, with borneol and clove lending a spiced, resinous depth that suits the season. The kind of scent that belongs in a room with low afternoon light and something slow cooking.

First Snow (初雪の香り) : Clean and faintly sharp, with the cool, slightly medicinal quality of fresh snow air. Sandalwood and clove keep it from feeling cold, and the result is bracing in the best possible way — the incense equivalent of a clear winter morning.
