Kousaido (香彩堂) is a Kyoto-based incense maker with a simple but deeply felt philosophy — to colour your life with fragrance. Rouzan / 老山 — old-mountain — sandalwood is the term used for heartwood harvested from mature trees, and it's considered the finest grade the wood produces: denser, more resinous, and with a depth of scent that younger timber simply doesn't have. Kousaido sources theirs from Mysore in southern India, long regarded as the origin of the world's best sandalwood, and the difference is present from the first light. The fragrance is cool and quietly sweet, like air moving through a shaded room on a warm afternoon.
