Description

Each piece from Ichikawa Mokko is a testament to the artistry and heritage of three generations of master woodworkers.

Founded in Shizuoka, Japan, the workshop has evolved from crafting traditional "Sashimono" furniture to creating exquisite, functional accessories that showcase the natural beauty of Japanese wood. Their commitment to quality and sustainability is evident in their use of carefully selected, rare materials such as Japanese Zelkova and horse chestnut, often repurposing choice cuts into stunning, unique items. Every product is meticulously handcrafted, combining traditional techniques with a modern sensibility, resulting in elegant pieces that are as durable as they are beautiful. With a dedication to preserving the natural character of each material, Ichikawa Mokko offers timeless designs that bring a touch of Japanese craftsmanship into your home.

This exquisite tray, crafted from Tochi Wood (Japanese Horse Chestnut), beautifully combines traditional Japanese iron-dyeing techniques with the natural elegance of this rare wood. Tochi Wood is known for its straight trunk and stunning grain, making it a preferred choice for fine furniture and tools.

The surface of the tray is enhanced through a meticulous Iron Dyeing Technique, where iron acetate—crafted from steel wool and vinegar—reacts with the natural tannins in the wood to develop a distinctive, silvery-black hue. This method not only brings out the natural elegance of the wood but also mirrors the organic phenomenon of wood buried in iron-rich soil layers, a tradition deeply rooted in Japanese woodworking.

Available in three different sizes, this tray is a versatile and sophisticated addition to any home. Whether used for serving or as a statement piece in your décor, it reflects the harmonious blend of traditional techniques and modern aesthetics. A true collector’s piece, it’s perfect for those who appreciate the nuanced beauty of handcrafted Japanese art.
