Handheld Lucky Fortune Ornament - Daruma / おみくじ ダルマ
Celebrate the charm of Japan’s folk traditions with this beautifully handcrafted Hariko Omikuji Ornament. Made using the harie (貼り絵) technique, a traditional Japanese method of layering washi paper to create lightweight yet sturdy forms, this delicate piece evokes a sense of nostalgia while embodying the craftsmanship of Kyoto.
Each ornament has been individually blessed at Kyoto’s Higashiyama Manzoku Inari Shrine (京都東山・満足稲荷神社), offering a meaningful connection to Japan’s spiritual heritage. Hidden inside is a tiny omikuji (fortune slip)—a traditional way to receive guidance or luck for the future. Once opened, the ornament can be displayed as a decorative piece, bringing good fortune and cultural beauty to any space.
Steeped in history and artistry, this Hariko Omikuji Ornament makes a thoughtful gift or keepsake, adding the warmth of Japanese craftsmanship to daily life.
■ The Maker
Kyoto Karasuma Roku-Hichido (京都烏丸六七堂) is a brand dedicated to celebrating Japan’s four seasons and traditional customs through the art of paper craft. By blending time-honoured washi paper techniques with a contemporary aesthetic, they create stationery and ornaments that enrich everyday life with warmth and nostalgia.
Rooted in Kyoto’s long-standing paper-making traditions, the brand is a project by Uemura Paper, a company that has been serving customers since 1912. Their expertise in Japanese washi paper is reflected in every carefully crafted item, which serves not only as a medium for communication but also as a symbol of connection and thoughtful expression.
As the whole piece is handmade in Japan, slight irregularities in size and colour might occur and reflect the nature of the artisan product.
