Crafted at Gyokusan Kiln (玉山窯), this Nezumi-Shino sake set carries the quiet dignity and expressive charm of Momoyama-period ceramics. Shino and Oribe ware—beloved for their soft forms, natural texture, and richly expressive glazes—emerged in the late 16th century and have been treasured by tea practitioners and collectors ever since. Gyokusan Kiln continues this heritage with exceptional devotion, preserving techniques carefully passed down through generations.
The hand-painted grapevine motif, a gentle emblem of abundance and celebration, rests atop the kiln’s signature grey “nezumi” glaze. During firing, the glaze softens into layered tones of charcoal and ash, creating depth and movement unique to each piece. Subtle brush lines, small kiln marks, and natural variations in texture reveal the intimate, handmade character of true Shino ware.
At Gyokusan Kiln, the artisans work day and night to refine traditions inherited from their ancestors—evolving the “family secrets” of preparation, firing, and glaze blending so each work carries both history and new life. The result is a sake set that feels timeless yet quietly modern, carefully balancing rustic warmth with elegant restraint.
