Wakasa lacquerware Chopsticks with Chopstick Rest - Garden Cherry / 若狭塗箸 桜 ギフトセット
The sakura motif in these chopsticks isn't painted on — it's part of the Wakasa lacquerware process itself, built up in layers of shell and lacquer and then hand-polished until the blossoms emerge from the surface with a depth you don't get from decoration alone. It's a technique that's been practised in the Obama region of Fukui for centuries, and the result feels considered rather than decorative. The natural timber box and wooden rests make the whole set look already complete. These chopsticks are made from natural Japanese wood. The upper section is polished with a non-slip finish, making it easier to grip food. As each piece is handmade in Japan, slight variations in size, colour and texture may occur. These natural irregularities reflect the character of artisan-made products.
