Description

Chawanmushi (茶碗蒸し), meaning “steamed in a tea bowl,” is a silky, savoury custard that has been enjoyed in Japan for centuries. Made with a delicate blend of eggs, dashi, soy sauce, and mirin, it is often enriched with prawns, chicken, mushrooms, or ginkgo nuts. Unlike other Japanese egg dishes, it is eaten warm with a spoon rather than chopsticks, its comforting texture making it beloved by all generations. Traditionally served at family gatherings, festive occasions, or as part of a kaiseki course, Chawanmushi embodies Japanese hospitality through its gentle taste and nourishing qualities.

The Tokusa Chawanmushi Bowl blends tradition with modernity through its rhythmic indigo lines. The vertical striping creates a sense of order and refinement, a pattern often seen in Japanese ceramics for its timeless appeal. This bowl makes a versatile companion for Chawanmushi, balancing durability with elegance. Its fitted lid ensures that the custard remains silky and aromatic, while its clean, contemporary aesthetic allows it to harmonize with both Japanese and Western dining styles.

As every piece has its handmade feature, slight irregularities in size, glaze, colour and texture might occur and reflect the nature of the artisan product.
