Description

The technology of Chasen (matcha whisk) making has been passed down for 500 years. From the raw material of a piece of harvested bamboo, it is still hand-made only by one knife and human manual work.

Takayama Chasen (高山茶筌) is a long-established tea utensil with a history of about 500 years, which has continued since the late Muromachi period (室町時代).
The artisan of this Chasen, Mr. Sabun Kubo (久保左文氏), is the 24th generation owner of this Takayama chasen. He is certified by the country as a "traditional craftsman" (伝統的工芸士).

There are many types of Chasen. Each difference depends on the school(流派) and what kind of tea you want to make.

・数穂/ Kazuho
It is suitable for making both light and dark tea and because of its thin handle, it is easy to hold.
The number of prongs of Kazuho is around 70.

Dimension: 6 cm Diameter (Prong part), 11 cm Height, 2.5 cm Diameter (Handle)

As the whole piece is hand-made in Nara, Japan, slight irregularities in size, glaze, colour and the number of prongs might occur and reflect the nature of the artisan product.
