Brass Incense Holder – Nautilus Motif Incense Holder / 香立て
Inspired by the graceful spiral of the nautilus shell, this handcrafted brass incense holder brings together natural elegance and thoughtful functionality. Its compact, sculptural form makes it both a decorative accent and a versatile tool, designed to accommodate a range of incense styles — from thin and thick stick incense to cone-shaped varieties.
The precisely sized hole ensures a stable hold for sticks of varying diameters, avoiding common issues such as wobbling or ash buildup. For cone incense, a small central pin supports the base at a single point, allowing for a more complete and cleaner burn.
Made from solid brass, this piece is intentionally left uncoated to allow the material’s natural beauty to evolve over time. As it reacts to the air and the oils from your hands, the surface will gradually develop a soft, antique-like patina — a living finish that reflects your use and care. This ageing process, known as “kare” or “brass ageing,” adds depth and individuality to each holder.
If preferred, the original shine can easily be restored using a metal polish suitable for brass (such as those used for Buddhist altar fittings or musical instruments), offering the flexibility to maintain or refresh its look as desired.
As the whole piece is handmade in Japan, slight irregularities in size, glaze, colour and texture might occur and reflect the nature of the artisan product.
