Takaoka, famed for its copperware and lacquerware traditions, owes its legacy to Lord Toshinaga Maeda, who commissioned the craft for daily use during the early Edo period. At the heart of Amano Shikki's collection lies the art of aogai-nuri(青貝塗), a technique that brings to life intricate motifs of landscapes, flowers, and birds through the delicate inlay of mother-of-pearl, known as raden(螺鈿).
