This tea incense furnace is a collaboration between Saliu Design and Tsunoyama Ceramics, a 100-year-old kiln. It is a simple and compact tea incense burner that uses the texture of pottery.
The plate on top of the furnace is made of direct heat-safe ceramics. Each box comes with one tea incense furnace, a candle and a bag of 20g tea leaves. 20g of the leaves can be used around four times.
"Mino Shirakawa tea" is used for the tea leaves for the tea incense furnace. It's very luxurious. Originally, tea was a warm local plant, so this Mino Shirakawa tea is said to be the northern limit of tea production. (Northern limit = limit of tea production in the north region of Japan)
Shirakawa City, Gifu Prefecture, has a significant daily temperature difference, so tea grows in a harsh environment. Therefore, the tea will be rich in aroma and tasteful. For this tea leaf, instead of used for beverages, a tea leaf with a deep scent is selected for the tea incense furnace.
How to use it? Put Green Tea leaves on the plate. Place the candle inside the stand and light. The heat will warm up the green tea leave, which will start to emanate their distinguishing aroma. Stirring the leaves slightly will accelerate their diffusion. The approximate use time of 30-40 minutes.
As every piece has its handmade feature, slight irregularities in size, glaze, colour and texture might occur and reflect the nature of the artisan product.
