Sourced from the well-known Gifu Prefecture, the origin of Mino ware which has 1,300 years of history.
The shape of this matcha bowl is a flat type, also known as 'Natsu Chawan' — Summer Chawan. This flat type has a wide and flat shape of mouth which gives the whisked matcha a greater surface, allowing it to cool down faster in the warm summer months.
It might be difficult for matcha beginners as its more open shape can make it a little bit more challenging to whisk tea. But the natural glaze of dark red and the shape are so pleasing to the eyes. The texture is smooth glaze while the bottom is coarse so it doesn't move easily while whisking tea.
As the whole piece is handmade in Gifu, Japan, slight irregularities in size, glaze, colour and texture might occur and reflect the nature of the artisan product.
