The kurawanka dishes was one of the most common porcelain dishes made in the town of Hasami and was most commonly used by the peasantry during the Edo period. Ceramic producers of the time found resourceful ways to provide the common class with costly porcelain at cheaper prices.Kurawanka dishes are characterized by their basic patterns, which we have painted in bold, blue lines against grayish porcelain. We bring the immediately familiar feel of kurawanka dishes to a modern audience with simple patterns from the period that are just as charming today as they were then.

This kind of rectangular platter is commonly associated with serving fish. Its long, flat shape is ideal for sushi, omusubi rice balls, fresh spring rolls, and other dishes arranged lengthwise. It also works well as a one-plate solution for afternoon tea, with a cup of tea on one end and Japanese sweets on the other.

As every piece has its handmade feature, slight irregularities in size, glaze, colour and texture might occur and reflect the nature of the artisan product.
